The Learn to Play program is designed specifically for new players and is the best first step into hockey.
Penguins Beginner & Development League
This program is designed for developing hockey players and those continuing to build skating skills. It is intended for players who have completed the Utah Mammoth Learn to Play program, a beginner program, or who would benefit from additional skill development before participating in higher-paced gameplay.
Sessions will focus on skating fundamentals, balance, edge work, stopping, puck control, passing, shooting, and hockey confidence in a fun and supportive environment. Small-area games and age-appropriate activities will be incorporated to help players develop skills while building a love for the game.
This program is ideal for players who may still be developing confidence on the ice or who would benefit from additional skating and hockey fundamentals.
Ages
6U Beginner Hockey (Birthdates: 1/1/2020 – 12/31/2021)
8U Beginner Hockey (Birthdates: 1/1/2018 – 12/31/2019)
10U Beginner Hockey (Birthdates: 1/1/2016 – 12/31/2017)
12U Beginner Hockey (Birthdates: 1/1/2014 – 12/31/2015)
14U Beginner Hockey (Birthdates: 1/1/2012 – 12/31/2013).
When
The program will run on Thursdays beginning July 9th and ending August 27th.
Ice Times:
6U & 8U: Thursdays at 5:45 PM
10U, 12U & 14U: Thursdays at 6:45 PM
Where
All practices are held at the George S. Eccles Ice Center located at 2825 N 200 E, North Logan, Utah, 84341
Required Equipment
Full hockey equipment is required for participation, including a helmet with cage, neck guard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey pants, shin guards, gloves, stick, and skates.
Rental Gear: Hockey equipment is not available for rent through this league, and players are expected to provide their own gear.
Registration Costs
Registration includes 8 structured skill sessions & games and 1 hockey jersey for players to keep.
Player registration: $175
Goalie registration: $75
Parent Volunteers
We will need parent volunteers. For those interested, we will send a separate email to all parents with details before the start of the season.
Games
Small-area games will be incorporated for instructional purposes to reinforce skills, positioning, and hockey concepts in a fun, coach-supported environment focused on development and confidence.
Jerseys
Please refer to the Jersey Sizing Guide before selecting your player’s jersey size. Jerseys are ordered based on the size selected during registration. Please review the sizing chart carefully before making your selection.
